Shaman's Call

Composed and sent on January 15, 2016

At the memorial service that I help arrange at the Black Alumni Reunions, I always begin with a recording that is a tribute to the "first" pioneers of the valley.  I begin each session with the soothing Shaman's Call of R. Carlos Nakai

At the end of the memorial service, I like to close with Amazing Grace.  The first two years, it was with R. Carlos Nakai's rendition but last year Freddie Bryant (Class of 1987) played an exquisite acoustic guitar rendition that was quite moving and to which no recording could compare.

Nevertheless, for those of you who have not heard Amazing Grace by R. Carlos Nakai, please see

and please note the special Amherst oriented message that is embedded in the video.

Peace,

Everett "Skip" Jenkins
Class of 1975
